Obituary Luke "Bernard" McLawhorn, Jr., 81, of Cape Carteret, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Crystal Coast Hospice House, Newport, NC. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Brooks Funeral Home, with Rev. Everett Thomas officiating. Bernard was born in Grifton, NC to Luke and Kathryn McLawhorn. He served in the Army Air Corps after attending NC State University. Following a career with A. E. Finley in Raleigh, he and his wife, Phyllis, moved to Carteret County in 1984. He was the owner of Micro Machine Company in Morehead City until his retirement. He was a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, loved sailing, boating and astronomy. Bernard was always quick to lend a hand and was loved by many. He will be missed. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis Jackson McLawhorn; brother, Kerry McLawhorn, and wife, Dean, of Leland, NC; sister, Marion M. Morris, and husband, Stover, of Morehead City; four nieces, one nephew and a great niece. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after the service. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents.
