Obituary Lucille Guthrie Mades, 94, of Beaufort, died on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Crystal Coast Hospice House. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 14, at 1:30pm at Oceanview Cemetery in Beaufort, NC. Lucille Guthrie Mades was born in Beaufort to John and Mit Guthrie. She was a graduate of Beaufort High School, Class of 1941. During WWII, Lucille was a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corp. She received her R.N. Medical College Academic Preparation at William & Mary College and the Medical College of Va. Lucille was also a Graduate of Kings Daughters Hospital School of Nursing, Portsmouth, VA. After World War II, she returned to Beaufort and worked as an R.N. at the Morehead Hospital. She terminated her employment at the hospital to become Dr. Luther Felchers office Nurse on Front St. in Beaufort. Prior to her retirement, Lucille passed the N.C. Public Health Nurse Requirement test, and for 18 years, she was employed by the Carteret County School Board of Education as a school Nurse. Lucille served 5 respective Carteret County Schools on a weekly workday rotation schedule. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Dee Honey Mades", a Beaufort Native, and a daughter, Mit T. Mades. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Willis, of Smyrna; son, Robert Keith Mades and wife Dianna, of Beaufort; grandchildren, Stacey Dee Willis of Straits, Belinda Marie Mades of Beaufort, and Melanie Mades of Beaufort; and great-grandchild, Stacey Dee Willis, Jr. In lieu of flowers, Lucille asks that you make a memorial donation in her memory to a charity of ones choice.
