Louise Morgan

October 23, 1916 — May 11, 2014

Obituary Louise Freeman Morgan, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully in Morehead City on May 11, 2014, at the age of 97. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with the pastor, the Rev. Michael D. Frese and the associate pastor, the Rev. Joseph Franklin, officiating. Visitation with the family will immediately follow the service. Louise was born to David and Addie Freeman in Institute, NC, on October 23, 1916. While small in stature, she was a strong-willed woman who knew her own mind! She graduated from Morehead City High School in 1937 and from Pittman Hospital School of Nursing in Fayetteville, NC in 1940. On January 25, 1942, Louise married Belmont "Jack" Morgan. From their home in Morehead City, they traveled to every state in the Union but one. Their travels took them to several countries including Canada, Australia, New Zealand and several Asian countries. While they enjoyed traveling, they were always happy to return to their home in Morehead. After fifty years of marriage, Jack passed away in October, 1992. Louise spent 32 years as a nurse, retiring in 1978 as the supervising nurse in the operating room at Carteret General Hospital, earning the affection nickname "Little General" due to her no-nonsense attitude. Louise remained active in the First United Methodist Church and was the oldest congregation member when she passed away. She had volunteered time at Martha's Mission, was active in the Morehead City Women's Club, and continued to play bridge until her death. In addition to her parents and husband, Louise was preceded in death by her brothers Emory and Gordon Earl Freeman and her sister, La Vera F. Jones. Louise enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family. She is survived by her loving sons: B. Jack Morgan and wife, Beverly, of Cary, NC and David Morgan and wife, Sharon, of Bosque Farms, NM; four grandsons: Jonathan of San Jose, CA, Mark and wife, Ellie, of Raleigh, NC, Dashon of Albuquerque, NM, and Michael and wife, Sarah, of Morehead City; as well as five great grandchildren: Callie, Tyler, Laney, Courtney and Wade. The family wishes to thank her caregivers at the Carolina House, Crystal Bluffs and Carteret General Hospital for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the First United Methodist Church, 900 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.
