Lorraine Copeland

Obituary Lorraine H. Copeland, 92, of Beaufort, died Monday, March 14, 2016, at Carteret Health Care, Morehead City. Lorraine was born, November 7, 1923 in Ithaca, NY to Ed and Mary (Molly) Hile. She had her masters in special education and worked as a Registered Occupational Therapist. Graduated from Cornell University; was a social activist; loved historic Beaufort with its waterfront, the islands ponies and dolphins, and the NC Maritime Museum. Lorraine liked to travel, read a couple newspapers a day and read many books. She is survived by two sons, Len Copeland and his wife Maggie of Pawling, NY, and Larry Copeland of Beaufort; one daughter Mary Sue Barry and her husband Curt, of Beaufort; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Ryen of Rochester Mills, PA; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one arriving in August. In addition to her parents, her husband Sam Houston Copeland and great grandson, Ethan, preceded her in death. There are no visiting hours. Funeral is private. Lorraine was strong in her Christian faith. She was indebted to St. Egbert for their weekly visits and communion.
