Lois Kacmarcik

Obituary Lois J. Kacmarcik, 77, of Pine Knoll Shores, N.C. died November 24, 2017 surrounded by her beloved family. She and her devoted husband of 55 years, Larry Kacmarcik, moved to Pine Knoll Shores in 1992 for their love of the beach and their desire to enjoy life at a slower pace. She was born on October 15, 1940 in Clifton, N.J. where she lived until moving to Vernon, N.J. in 1976. Lois was a 1962 graduate of William Patterson University in Wayne, N.J. and dedicated her life to working with children. She started her teaching career in the Paramus, N.J. public school system, taught in The Childrens School preschool in Vernon, N.J. but moved to working for Head Start shortly thereafter. Lois worked for Head Start in N.J. for over 10 years and finished out her career with Head Start in N.C. after serving the children of Carteret County for an additional 16 years. She also taught Child Care Credentials at Carteret County Community College for a short time. After her retirement, she continued to work part time for the last 9 years doing early intervention with children. She was known for her ability to develop meaningful relationships and connect with children and families. Lois was a giving person with a love for helping people which showed through her many years of volunteer work for the Vernon Township Ambulance Squad. Lois enjoyed playing golf, bowling and spending time with her grandchildren. She had a fun and silly sense of humor that her grandchildren found quite entertaining. She often read to them from the "The Biggest Ever Joke Book" and was always heard telling them "dessert is part of the meal". Lois was an especially kind woman who had a warm heart and a listening ear for everyone that knew her. Lois is survived by her husband, Larry Kacmarcik, her son Larry Kacmarcik and his wife Ann, of Cary, N.C., her daughter Lynette Kacmarcik and her significant other Marc, of Palmyra, Va., her daughter, Lora Smith and her husband, Dale of Chesterfield, Va. and her wonderful grandchildren: Niall, Aisling, Amanda, Noah, Nathan, Nicholas, Nya, and Grant as well as her great-grandchildren Syra and Jason. Additionally, she is survived by her 4 siblings and their spouses, Arlene and Don Cellar, Elaine and John Runski, Ed and Hannah Kromka and Nancy and Larry Pettigano as well as numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of life held at her home at 104 Fern Ct., Pine Knoll Shores, N.C. on Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 2-5PM with special prayers at 3PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Carteret County Partnership for Children or Autism of Carteret.
