Lois Cox

September 14, 1939 — August 2, 2016

Obituary Lois Fay Meek Cox, 76, of Morehead City, was freed from illness and the constraint of her years and reunited with her one perfect love from this world, her husband, Clinton McKay Cox, where they will dwell in the House of the Lord forever along with her Brother, Charles Meek Jr., and her parents Charles and Helen Meek. At the time of her passing, she was resting comfortably at home, surrounded by her family, and bathed in the love of the hundreds of dear friends, students, and parents whose lives she touched and enriched day by day. Services are set to remember and celebrate the fine example she set in the time of her life for 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 4, 2016, at First United Methodist Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Lois Fay will always be remembered for her broad smile, unending kindness, generous friendship, love for her family, mastery of the gardening arts, and exquisite skill as a seamstress. Food, friends, and laughter were the primary ingredients she used to create an exceptional warmth of spirit and welcoming atmosphere not commonly seen. The laughter of others, especially the laughter of children, drew from her the brightest and most enduring smiles. As a secretary for the Craven County School System for many years, including Havelock High School, Havelock Middle, Gurganus Elementary, Roger Bell Elementary, and as recently as 2011, a volunteer at Early College EAST, Lois shaped, formed, and immeasurably improved the lives of many hundreds of students, faculty, and parents over her four decades of service in the field of education. She had a unique talent for sniffing out a students ruse, calming an excited parent, consoling and encouraging the overwhelmed teacher. Lois selflessness, stunning beauty, kindness, strength of spirit, and iron will were of the most unique combination such that while we know the world is poorer for her loss, we in this world all suffer an embarrassment of the riches derived from the gift of her presence. We boldly, yet humbly, risk the consequences of stating the obvious. This is a woman who, while she shall be greatly missed for all time, we are comforted knowing she is now free to look over and guide us for all our days to come. Survived by her sons, Clinton McKay Cox, Jr and wife Susan Grossman of Athens, NY; William Burton "Bucky" Cox and wife Lynn Frazier Cox of Morehead City, NC, Charles Norment Cox of Charleston, SC, grandchildren, Lauren Cox Weaver and husband Ryan Paul Weaver of Raleigh, NC, Evan McKay Cox of Wilmington, NC, Clinton McKay Cox III of Charleston, SC, Charles Broderick Cox, and Aiden Katherine Cox, both of Evans, GA, great grandchildren Caroline McKay Weaver and Clark Douglas Weaver of Raleigh, NC, and her honorary daughter and dear friend, Nancy Ruth Sermons. Preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen Meek, her brother, Charles Meek Jr., and her husband, Clinton McKay Cox.
