Obituary Linda B. Bonnette, 70, died September 5, 2017, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House, Newport. The family will be holding a private Celebration of Life service at a later date. Linda was born August 30, 1947 in Sumter. SC to her parents, Charles Hubert and Mattie Barkley Bonner. Upon graduating high school, Linda attended Winthrop University and received her BA in Education in 1969. She began her teaching career at Pickens Jr. High in South Carolina as the 8th Grade Language Arts teacher. In 1972, she accepted a position in Saluda, South Carolina where she taught at Hollywood High School and Riverside Middle School. To say that teaching was her passion would be quite the understatement and she returned to university where she obtained her Masters in Education from Francis Marion University in 1997. In 1978 she accepted a position at Central High School in Pageland, South Carolina and taught there until 1999 when she moved to Monroe High School in Monroe, North Carolina to teach English I. In 2004 she accepted her final teaching position at West Carteret High School, retiring in 2012 after serving 43 years in the education industry. Linda also had many achievements during her teaching career, she set as the English Chairperson for Central High School from 1989 until 1999; she served as Liaison with the Essential Schools Organization and was selected as an Essential Schools Team member twice; she co-authored Modular English for English I while at Monroe High School; served as president of Saluda County Education Association; served on the Christian Education Committee in Monroe from 1990 until 2003; and served on the Monroe HS School Improvement Team from 1999 until 2002 to name a few. Linda was also very active in her communities, serving as a Cub master, Boy Scout Leader and Charter Representative of the boy Scouts of America; a serving member of Beta Sigma Phi; she held memberships with the National Education Association, Saluda County Education Association, the South Carolina Educational Association, Chesterfield County Education Association and the Union County Educations Association. She is survived by her two sons, Thomas "Trey" Elliott Bonnette III and wife Reagan of Greenville, SC and Charles "Brandon" Bonnette of Wrightsville, NC; by her two brothers, Vernon Bonner and his wife Joan and Randy Bonner and his wife Deneen both of Sumter, NC; one niece and three nephews.
