Leroy Richard “Lee” Wagner, 80, passed away on September 5, 2024, in Morehead City, North Carolina. Born on May 30, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Lee was a spirited soul cherished by all who knew him. Lee graduated from Pennsauken High School and furthered his education at Pierce Junior College. He valiantly served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967, a period during which he dedicated himself to his country with honor and pride.

Professionally, Lee was a respected accountant, working with numerous small businesses throughout the South Jersey area. His passion for sports journalism saw him moonlighting as a sportswriter, ardently covering the Philadelphia Eagles and local high school sports. His enthusiasm for nurturing young athletes was evident through his years spent coaching baseball, affectionately naming his players the “Wagner Wonders”

Lee’s personal life was rich with love and devotion. He was a beloved husband to Kathy Lewis Wagner and a father whose pride in his children knew no bounds. He is survived by his spouse Kathy; sons, Steven Jay Wagner, and Kevin Leroy Wagner; daughters, Helene Ottens VanMeter (Rob), and Sonya Marleen Ottens; and grandchildren, Hunter Lee Best, Liam Wagner, Fawn Wagner, Hope Wagner Booker, and Kaili Ottens. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Wilson Wagner, and Edna Haines Wagner; his brother, Richard David Wagner; and his son, George Wagner.

A committed parishioner of St. Egbert Catholic Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. James E. Waters Council 12017, Lee was deeply rooted in his faith. His life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Noe-Brooks Funeral Home Chapel, located at 201 Professional Circle, Morehead City, NC. The funeral arrangements are being handled in Morehead City, North Carolina, where Lee spent his final years. Lee’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched with his vibrant spirit and unwavering support.
