Leila 'Joy' Flynn

Obituary Leila Joy Flynn passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City. There will be no service; her family will celebrate Joys life in a private event. Joy was born February 14, 1933 in Alexandria, VA as Leila Joy Warren. At age 2, she was adopted by Anthony and Mable Iveson and moved to Greenbelt, MD. She was a much loved child, called "Joy" as those who knew her felt it reflected her character and the gift she shared with others. She was an excellent student and loved English and music. Joy had a lovely singing voice and entertained at community events as she was growing up. Joy was devoted to her family and supported her brother through college. She graduated from Greenbelt High School and was and was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration for 30 years. Joy was very well-regarded by her co-workers and, over the course of her career, received multiple awards for excellence. Joy married Richard Walker Flynn in 1954. At the time of her death, they were married 64 years. They raised a son and daughter, and built a close and happy family. Joy is a beloved wife and mother, a cherished friend to her daughter, and has made life a little more joyful to all who knew her. Joy had an easy sense of humor; she created a warm, beautiful home and filled it with laughter. She loved a good mystery and enjoyed writing them. She sang often and shared her love of music with her children. Joy was a caring, thoughtful and generous friend. She maintained friendships even from her childhood. She never forgot to mark the important events in the lives of others dear to her. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother and sister. She is survived by her husband and children, and many lifelong friends, who all will celebrate her life every day. Joy will never leave the hearts of those who loved her.
