Kert Gaskill

Kert Ashley Gaskill, known fondly to friends and family as Kert, passed away at the age of 69 on May 16, 2024, In Morehead City, NC. Born in Sea Level, NC, on August 12, 1954, Kert grew up primarily in Montana, starting out in a one room school house.


Kert served in the US Coast Guard for four years, serving aboard the Laurel, a buoy tender stationed in Fort Macon.


Kert’s battle with cancer was fought with the same tenacity and vigor that characterized his approach to life’s challenges, Despite the adversity he faced, Kert’s optimism and charismatic spirit never waned, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and joy that will be cherished by all who knew him.


He is survived by a loving family that includes his devoted wife, Ronnetta Willis Gaskill; his daughters, Elizabeth Gaskill Harrelson and her husband Jason, Patty Gaskill; his brother Johnny Gaskill and his wife, Juanita; stepsons, James and Stephen Butts; and his adored grandchildren, Hayden, Skylar, Kristen, and Vance. Each family member was a source of immense pride and happiness for Kert, and he embraced every moment spent with them.


Kert’s Professional life was marked by a successful career in car sales. His passion for Fountain boats was a hobby as well as his professional shooting which earned him the title of one of the top 15 shooters in US Practical Shooters Association. His interests brought him into the company of fellow enthusiasts and fostered a sense of camaraderie that he deeply valued. Kert’s knowledge of cars and boats was only surpassed by his desire to ensure that every client left not just satisfied but as a friend. After his career in cars sales, he had a mini storage business in Morehead City and a power wash business.


As we say goodbye to Kert, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and passion. We take solace in the memories he leaves behind and the indelible mark he made on the hearts of those he touched. Kert’s story is one of love, dedication, and an unwavering zest for life that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.


A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Kert’s legacy will live on in the stories told, the laughter shared, and the profound love he had for his family and friends. Through he may have set sail on his final journey, going very swiftly because that’s the only speed he knew, the wake of his memory will ripple through the lives of many for years to come.


He was preceded in death by his loving parents, John Leland Gaskill Sr. and Dessie Pittman Gaskill.
