Obituary Kenneth Ken John Moore, 77, of Newport, died Saturday, August 2, 2014, at his home. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel,with David G. Price, Minister,officiating. Ken was born in Dixon, Illinois on May 22, 1937, to Frank and Marian Petersen Moore. He served his country in the US Navy, retiring after 20 years of service. After retirement, he spent another 20 years as manager of several different convenience stores. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Elizabeth; 5 daughters, Sheila Hencher, and her husband, Eliando, of Newport, Tina Thammavangsa, and her husband, Keo, of Mt. Airy, Georgia, Stephanie Mann, and her husband, Tyron, of Newport, Donna Lightsey, and her husband, George, of San Diego, CA and Kimberly Heath; his son, Kenneth J. Moore, Jr.; a sister, Margaret Henry of Delaware, and two brothers, Paul Moore and Larry Moore; his sister-in-law, Mary Moore of Rockford, Ill; 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Harlan Pete Moore and his sister, Ellen Loftis. The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Newport Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading Association, 106 Pinewood Drive, Newport, NC 28570.
