Kenneth Allen Harris, 82, of Morehead City, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at his home with his family by his side.
Ken was born on March 8, 1941, in Ayden, Pitt County, N.C. to Robert G. Harris and Nannie Allen Harris. Ken was a graduate of East Carolina College with a B.S. degree in business. He served six years in the National Guard. He retired from Dupont, in Kinston, with 35 years of service, as a cost analyst.
He was a faith-based man and witnessed through his daily walk with God. He read his Bible religiously, wrote in his inspirational journals, spent intimate time with The Lord, had an active prayer life, and shared his strong faith with his family and friends. He and his wife, Verna, had daily devotions, talks, and prayers in the mornings. His battle with cancer was fought just like he lived, with strength, courage, conviction, faith, and the assurance that this was God’s plan for his departure from his earthly home to his eternal home in Heaven. Everyone who visited with Ken was touched by his unwavering trust in God and his ability to show victory instead of defeat!
Ken was truly a Renaissance Man. His interests and hobbies were so varied. He loved the outdoors with fishing camping, hiking, white water rafting, and boating. He even hiked on the Appalachian Trail. Music was one of his passions. He was a gifted musician and loved singing in choirs all his life. While in Morehead City he sang with the Carteret Chorale directed by Laurence Stith. He was an avid reader and history buff. He was a true competitor in all games, bridge, chess, and Mah Jong. He also loved to teach others how to play.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Verna, of nearly twenty-two years: sons, Christopher Harris (Tammy), Jonathan Harris (Jennifer). He was blessed with so many loving grandchildren: Brittany Burt, Justin Pressly, Brooke Harris, Chelsea Harris, and Caroline Harris. He was gifted with five great-grandchildren. He had a very special nephew, Keith Hardee, (Mara), and three great-nieces and nephew. Andrea Norris was Ken’s only surviving sister and her husband Bill, who was Ken’s camping buddy. He had many loving nieces and nephews. His loving sister-in-law, Donna Harris, was really close to Ken and Verna.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his loving first wife of many years, Martha, his brother, Robert Harris, and his sister, Dottie Hill.
