Keith Friend

November 2, 1951 — January 1, 2015

Obituary Keith Alan Friend, 63, of Morehead City, NC died unexpectedly on January 1, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at St. Egbert Catholic Church, 1706 Evans Street, Morehead City, NC 28557, with the pastor, the Rev. Thomas R. Davis, officiating. He was born November 2, 1951 to Marian and William Friend in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He did many amazing things in his life including being a US Army Airborne Ranger, graduating from Grand Valley State with a Masters, and raising his family with his wife Mickey of 42 years. He was proud to work for a number of companies, but perhaps most proud to own his own businesses. He bought, ran, and operated Dunkin Donut/Baskin Robin franchises in Havelock, Morehead City, and Camp Lejeune until he sold them in 2013. He retired briefly, but not one to be still for long, he participated in the Brandywine BOA followed shortly by his last work adventure: the purchase of Brandywine Bay Golf Club with his partner Chris Calling. He was very excited to see his vision completed. Keith enjoyed playing golf, especially with Mickey, grilling the perfect steak, and enjoying the company of his family, friends, and neighbors on his deck with a cold beer. He loved his family greatly and always looked forward to time with his wife, daughters, and granddaughters who he adored and spoiled with donuts, ice cream, and games. He was a big personality and well loved. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Mickey Friend and 3 adoring daughters, Jennifer Vaughan and her husband Kevin, Sarah Brantly and her husband Jeff, and Amy Friend and her husband Keith Priest. He is also survived by his 3 granddaughters Grace and Ellis Vaughan and Samantha Brantly. His siblings Ken Friend, Kathy Price, Karen Meyers, Kurt Friend, Kevin Friend, and Karrie Knapp also survive him. Keith is preceded in death by his parents William and Marian Friend. A service to honor and celebrate the life of Keith will be held on Monday, January 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home, 201 Professional Circle, Morehead City, NC 28557 with a Christian Wake Service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at 4200 Morganton Road, Suite 300, Fayetteville, NC 28314 or www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
