Junius 'J. T.' Creech, Jr

Obituary Junius Troy (J. T.) Creech, Jr., aka Pop, 88, of Newport, died Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at Carteret Health Care. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 25, at St. James United Methodist Church, Newport, with the pastor, the Rev. Thomas Supplee, officiating. He was born July 17, 1927 in Wilson, NC to Junius Troy Creech and Bessie Mattocks Creech. J. T. was raised in Maysville, NC where he graduated from high school in 1944. He attended Louisburg College and then joined the Merchant Marines in 1945. J. T. attended East Carolina Teachers College where he met Julia Ann Senter who he married in January 1949. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 1953. He and his wife moved to Newport in 1955 where he resided until his death. J. T. worked at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point where he retired in 1975 after 26 years of employment. He was a longtime member of Morehead City Country Club where he enjoyed golf well into his seventies. He and special friend, Anne Eastman of Morehead City, frequently traveled and enjoyed spending evenings together looking over Bogue Sound. He is survived by one son, Jeff Creech and wife Ali Creech of Newport; one daughter, Theresa Cox Mulvihill of Chino, CA; two step grandchildren, Angie Pearce of Orlando, FL and Christy Bauerlein of Tampa, FL; one step great-granddaughter, Olivia Bauerlein of Raleigh, NC; one sister, Helen Creech Tanner of Jacksonville, FL. In addition to his parents, his wife, Julia Ann Creech; two sons, Art Wayne Creech and Jamie Jay Creech; and one sister, Gloria Creech Downing, preceded him in death. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
