Obituary Julian Austin, Jr., of Virginia Beach, formerly of Beaufort, went into the afterlife on Monday, 29 August 2016 in Virginia Beach. A graveside memorial service will be held at Gethsemane Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016. Born 23 September 1932 in Beaufort to Julian and Mabel Noe Austin, Julian was affectionately known as Choo-Choo to his classmates, Whistle to his buddies, and Poppie to his family. After graduation from Beaufort High School in 1950, he served his country honorably in the US Air Force during the Korean War and served another fourteen years in the US Air Force Reserve. He was a long-time employee of the Naval Rework Facility at Cherry Point. He was an avid golfer and happily hosted the Julian Austin Jr. Invitational Golf Tournament for family and friends on Thanksgiving Day. He is survived by his daughter, Melodie (Lawrence) Brady of Virginia Beach, VA, his sister, Florence Nance of New Bern, his daughter-in-law, Trisha Toms, 5 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Julian was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janice Lewis Austin, his son, Luther, brothers, John Floyd and Roy, and sisters, Lorraine and Violet.
