Joy Nuckols

Obituary Joy Suzanne Petree Nuckols, age 62, of Cape Carteret, passed away on September 18, 2015 after a brief struggle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 2:00 PM with visitation following the service. Suzanne was born in Shelby, NC on December 17, 1952, the daughter of Joseph and Virginia Burnette Petree. Suzanne had many passions and talents. She enjoyed researching genealogy, sewing, quilting, and furniture making. She was also an avid animal lover. Her extensive genealogical research stemmed from a passion for exploring the lives of our ancestors. This research has answered many questions regarding our family history and brought to life many stories surrounding our forebears. In addition to researching our family line, Suzanne did research for family friends as well. She was able to reunite several friends with long lost family members. Sewing and quilting were also passions. She created dozens of beautiful handmade ornate quilts, which took extreme patience and diligence. Like her father, Suzanne enjoyed designing and building furniture. She made cabinets, shelves, TV stands and Christmas tree stands. Suzanne is survived by her parents, Joe and Virginia Petree, her husband, Michael Nuckols, her two daughters, Jennifer Rawls and Shelby Nuckols and her two sisters, Mary Moore and Margaret Savage.
