Obituary Biography Joseph "Joe" Louis Whittle was born on November 30, 1935 to the union of William N. Whittle Sr. and Queenie Victoria Smith in Brooklyn, New York. William Sr., Queenie Victoria, and sister Ruby Whittle preceded him in death. Joe received a formal education through the New York City Public School system. Joe was a veteran and served honorably and proudly in the United States Marine Corps. After returning home to New York he worked for the New York City Transit Authority for over 20 years and retired in 1986. Joe then worked as a school safety agent at Jamaica High School in Queens, New York. Joe relocated to Morehead City, North Carolina where he became an active member of St. Egbert Catholic Church. He served within the churchs ministry as a faithful usher at the 5:30 mass, charming everyone with his welcoming manner and beautiful smile. Joe was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic-based fraternal service organization, the Holy Mackerel Fishing Club, and the offertory counting team. Anyone who knew Joe, knew that he loved a good conversation; conversations that will truly be missed. He also enjoyed watching football, fishing, eating Red Lobster biscuits, listening to jazz, and spending time with family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Egbert Catholic Church, with the pastor, Rev. Thomas R. Davis, officiating. Inurnment will be in the Church Columbarium. Joe leaves to cherish his memory: his sister, Dorothy J. Whittle; brother, William N. Whittle Jr., a sister in law, Delores; nieces, Maureen, Vanessa, Marlena, Kristina, Koree, Kayla, and Carmen; nephews, Curtis, Andrew, and Dean; a parish family who will miss him terribly, and a host of extended family members and friends.
