Obituary Joseph DiRusso, 94, of Morehead City, died Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Croatan Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newport. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at St. Egbert Catholic Church in Morehead City with pastor, the Rev. Thomas R. Davis, officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. Mr. DiRusso was born December 9, 1924, in the Bronx, New York to Joseph and Mary Aceto DiRusso. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a commercial graphic artist in New York City. Upon moving to North Carolina, Joseph worked at Kurtis Chevrolet for many years. In his retirement, he returned to his passion for art. From 2003-2004, he was the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum Membership Artist for his painting, "Sunrise - Davis Island." He is survived by two daughters, Mary DiRusso Skoog and husband Bruce of Washington, CT, and Demetra DiRusso Walker and husband Stephen of Morehead City; one son-in-law, Harold Suber of Greenville; five grandchildren, Deirdre Wittman and husband Scott, Stephanie Suber, Lindsey Buxbaum, Laura Parish and husband Jason, and Kristin Walker; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Charlotte Parish; numerous nieces and nephews; a loving caregiver, Louise Guthrie; and special friend, Andrea OConnell. Josephs parents; his beloved wife, Chrisula Parianos DiRusso; his daughter, Georgia DiRusso Suber; a brother, Henry DiRusso; and a sister, Louise DiRusso Civitillo, precede him in death. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for the loving care and compassion provided by Croatan Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Continuum Home Health and Hospice staff. The family will receive friends in the church Agape Room one hour prior to the service. Flowers are welcome.
