Obituary Jonathan Kurt Oswalt, 59, of Newport, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023, at home. Jon graduated from West Carteret High school in 1982. He joined the army and was honorably discharged as a specialist 4 in 1986. Jon then worked as an aircraft mechanic at Cherry Point until retirement. Jon was known as the "mayor" of Salty Shores campground. He was always around to give fishing advice, lend a hand fixing something, or just sit and have a drink and listen to music. He loved fishing, drumming, and drinking fireball. Jon didnt always have an easy time, especially with his battle with cancer, but he still made sure to make each person he interacted with feel special, and to leave them with a laugh. Jons vivacious nature and carefree spirit will be missed dearly by his friends and family. The family will celebrate his life at Salty Shores campground in Newport, NC on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 6:00pm. Attendees are requested to wear bright colors or your favorite fishing shirt. He is survived by his daughter Carmen Seaada, his brother Timothy Oswalt, his half-sister Penelope Oswalt-Stimson, and his nieces and nephews Joy Oswalt, Leah Oswalt, Sophie Oswalt, Christian Oswalt, and Noelle Oswalt, and his cat Flopsy.
