John Young

Obituary John N. Young, loving husband, devoted father, brother, and grandfather, 66, of Beaufort, departed this life on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at his home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2, Ocean View Cemetery, Beaufort. He was born in Harnett County on August 24, 1948 to Norwood Roswell Young and Mary Talley Young. Mr. Youngs entire life was one of public service for the Town of Beaufort. He wore many hats for his 37 years with the town. He was the Beaufort Fire Chief, Building Inspector, and Public Works Director until his retirement in 2013. He was an active member of Ann Street United Methodist Church, a member and past president of The Beaufort Ole Towne Rotary club, a member of the Core Sound Decoy Carvers Guild and served on the Board of Directors of the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum for many years. He was a gourmet chef, master waterfowl carver, skilled fisherman, and avid golfer. Johns legacy is that all who knew him saw him as a man of integrity and wisdom with deep and abiding faith and a great love for his family, friends, and the town he truly loved. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cheryl Temple Young; beloved sons, William Young of Beaufort and Scott Young and his wife, Donna Young, of Morehead City. Pops leaves behind the loves of his life, granddaughters, Abree Young and Millie Kate Young; his much loved sisters, Jackie Y. Jones and husband, Tommy, of Beaufort, Doris Y. McMullan of Beaufort, Susan Y. McLeod of Straits; brother-in-law, Bill Temple and his wife, Xu, of Colorado; special family members, Elizabeth T. Vick, Ann V. House and her husband, Walter, Temple Vick and his wife, Darla; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, his beloved dog, Belle, preceded him in death.
