John Riso

Obituary John David Riso, 82, of Pine Knoll Shores, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 29, 2014, at St. Egbert Catholic Church, with the pastor, the Rev. Thomas R. Davis, officiating. Mr. Riso was born April 17, 1931, in New York, New York, to Salvatore and Elizabeth Morano Riso. He served his country in the United States Navy. After his discharge, he was employed by N.Y. Telephone Company in the Long Island area of New York. He began his own communications business after retiring from N.Y. Telephone Company in 1986. In 1996, he attained his dream of retiring at the beach and acquired the title of its unofficial mayor. As a volunteer, the Pine Knoll Shores Fire Department held a special place in Johns life. The brotherhood he shared with them always remained with him. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Riso; daughters, Lynn Blangiardo and husband, Thomas, of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, Gail Harty of Lindenhurst, New York, and Dana Saraniero and husband, Steven, of Setanket, New York; sons, Michael Riso and wife, Jean, of Irmo, South Carolina, Brian Riso and wife, Kerri, of Morehead City, and John Riso and wife, Karen of Commack, New York, as well as 17 grandchildren. In addition to his parents, his infant son, Steven Riso; and his sisters, Geraldine Rail and Eileen Susmarski, preceded him in death. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
