John Gaskill

Obituary John Carlton Gaskill, 88, of Beaufort died Monday, February 6, 2017, at Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. A graveside service with military honors and Masonic rites will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, at St. Pauls Episcopal Church Cemetery, Beaufort. The Rev. Mary Ogus will officiate. He was born May 31, 1928 on Harkers Island, NC to Carl and Lola Lewis Gaskill. He graduated from Harkers Island High School and attended North Carolina State University. Mr. Gaskill joined the Army in January of 1946. Following his discharge in April of 1947 he attended flight school. He joined the Army again in 1950 and served during the Korean War. He was discharged from the Army in 1952 and joined the United States Coast Guard where he served for 28 years. He was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church and Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 109, Beaufort. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Julie Mansfield and husband Melvin of Atlantic Beach and Evelyn Fulcher and husband Donald of Beaufort; cousin, Annie Brown Gaskill of Pennsylvania and a large extended family. In addition to his parents, his wife, Wanda Owens Gaskill, preceded him in death. The family will receive friends at the church parish hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 109, 104 Professional Park Drive, Beaufort, NC 28516.
