Obituary John Wesley Barnes, 72, of Morehead City died Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Carteret Health Care. A celebration of his life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the home of Christine Barnes. The Rev. John Grayson will officiate. He was born June 7, 1945 in Greensboro, NC to Elizabeth Holden Barnes and Harley Orville Barnes. He was a 1963 graduate of Grimsley High School, Greensboro and attended the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He was employed by Stockton White & Company Mortgage Bankers in Raleigh, NC where he served as Vice President from 1967 1981. Beginning in 1981 he worked more than ten years in Sales & Development of Beacons Reach in Pine Knoll Shores, NC. Following his employment at Beacons Reach he started his own mortgage brokerage company, J. W. Barnes & Company, which he ran for five years. He then was a Real Estate Broker with various companies until 2005. He served in the Army Reserves from 1966 1972. He enjoyed the game of golf, fishing, boating and time outside with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Christine Flannagan Barnes; daughters, Trina Barnes Harrell of Wake Forest and Angela Barnes Rowland and spouse, Neal of Morehead City; grandchildren, Holden Elizabeth Harrell, Stephen Chandler Harrell, III and Mary Neal Rowland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 7:00 p.m. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Steven Nelson Barnes.
