Jo Ann Tetterton, 93, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, with her son Hilton, his wife Melissa, and her grandson Josh by her side. A beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, best friend, mentor, and most of all, a child of God, Jo Ann’s life was a testament to faith, love, and service.
Born on February 1, 1931, in Pinetops, NC, Jo Ann was married to her late husband, Hilton Tetterton Sr., for 61 wonderful years. Together, they built a life centered on family and faith, leaving a legacy of love and devotion that will endure for generations.
Jo Ann dedicated the early part of her life to caring for others as a registered nurse at the Bethel Clinic. She later transitioned to helping families in need through the school system, always serving as a compassionate guide for those who needed her. Her life took on deeper meaning when she discovered that God was not a distant figure of judgment and punishment but a loving presence inviting her into an intimate relationship. This revelation became the cornerstone of her life and inspired her to share her faith with everyone she met.
Jo Ann lived as a welcoming beacon, introducing countless people to Christ through her words, actions, and unwavering example of love. She embodied her guiding principle: “Love God and Love People,” and her warmth, kindness, and cooking especially her pound cakes touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her or having one of her pound cakes because her family never got one.
She is survived by her sons, Hilton Jr. (wife Melissa) of Pine Knoll Shores, NC, and Michael (wife Sharon) of Lexington, KY; her cherished grandchildren, Josh, Jill, Chris, Taylor, Jordan, and Leslie; and eleven great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.
A celebration of Jo Ann’s extraordinary life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Bogue Banks Baptist Church in Atlantic Beach, NC, with a fellowship lunch to follow. A graveside service will take place later that day at 3:30 p.m. at Bethel Town Cemetery in Bethel, NC. The service will be live streamed to the funeral home website at noebrooks.net.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Bogue Banks Baptist Church or the Church of your choice, in Jo Ann’s memory.
Her life was a beautiful example of faith in action, and her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched and fed.
