Jerome "Jay" 'Jay' Combs

Obituary Jay Combs, 77, of Newport, died Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Carteret General Hospital. A memorial service, with military honors, will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 28, 2015, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Havelock. Burial will take place at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Mr. Combs was born in New York City to Stanley and Dorothy Combs. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a carpenter in Carteret county for many years. He is survived by his wife, Kristjana Combs, of Newport; Six children, Kevin Combs of Meredith, NH, James Maxwell, Jr. of Newport, Vada Lucas of Newport, Bill Maxwell of New Bern, Robert Maxwell of Ayden and John Maxwell of James City; One brother Charles Combs of Long Island, NY: three sisters, Terry McDermott of Palm Harbor, FL, Debbie Soppier of Ingles, FL, and Sandy Weston, of Wilco, CA; 11 Grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, his daughter, Donna Halpin, preceded him in death.
