Jeremiah 'Jerry' O'Shea

Obituary Jeremiah Joseph "Jerry" OShea, 79, of Cape Carteret, died Monday, July 17, 2017, at Pruitt Health, Sea Level. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at St. Mildred Catholic Church, Swansboro, with the pastor, Fr. Donald Baribeau officiating. Jerry was born in Bronx, NY on December 8, 1937, to Jeremiah and Mary Kelly OShea. He attended St. Raymond grade school and Cardinal Farley Military Academy High School, and graduated from Siena College in Loudonville, NY with a BA in English. He joined the Marine Corps in 1959, which was a very proud experience for him. After leaving the Marine Corp, Jerry attended Cornell Hotel School. In 1964, he married Sheila Fridley. In 1968, Jerry achieved his life long dream to own a hotel, OSheas Colonels Table Inn in Hunter, NY. In 1981, Jerry and Sheila moved to Pine Knoll Shores, and in 1983, he became a licensed Real Estate Broker. He worked at Sun Surf Realty and Carolina Homes Realty before retiring in 2010. Jerry had a pilots license, was a certified scuba diver, a fearless horseman and skier. His expertise was party and event planning. Jerry and Linda Cumberland were the innovators with the Emerald Isle Merchants Association of the Emerald Isle St. Patricks Festival in 1991. Jeremiah Joseph OShea is best summarized as a lovely fellow that loved his family and friends. He lived his life thinking that "a stranger is a friend that you havent yet met." He is survived by his wife, Sheila Fridley OShea; sister, Eileen O. Torrey, of Mahopac, NY; brother, Thomas Patrick OShea of Colorado Springs, CO; one niece and 4 nephews He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends at the church 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday, July 27, 2017.
