Jean Loraine Ryan, a beacon of light and love in the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 4, 2024, in Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina. Born on May 4, 1943, in Rochester, New York, daughter of William and Hazel Press, along with two siblings Susan Tiedman and Carol Schwartz. Jean's journey through life was marked by her unwavering kindness, her passion for education, and the joy she found in the simple pleasures of life.
In her personal life, Jean was the embodiment of love and devotion. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Neil Ryan, who found in her not just a wife but a true partner in every sense of the word. Together, they created a family with their daughter Robin, their son Bradley, and were blessed with the joyous laughter of their grandchildren Shannon, Grayson, Leah, Nicholas, and Madison, as well as seven great-grandchildren, who will carry her legacy forward.
Jean's early years in Rochester laid a strong foundation for a life of learning and teaching. After graduating from Brockport, she dedicated 31 years to shaping young minds in the Hilton School District in Hilton, New York. Her commitment to her students went beyond the classroom, as she instilled in them the values of curiosity, respect, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Jean's love for books was as much a part of her as her gentle smile. She traveled through the pages of countless novels, exploring worlds and experiences, and sharing her love for stories with everyone around her. Her adventurous spirit was not confined to the literary world, as she and Neil traveled extensively, experiencing the beauty and diversity of our planet.
A woman of faith, Jean served as a Sunday school teacher, guiding young hearts with the same love and wisdom she brought to every aspect of her life. Her spiritual contributions to her community were as impactful as her professional ones and will be remembered by those who were fortunate to learn from her.
Cooking was another of Jean's passions, and her kitchen was a place of warmth and delicious memories. Her recipes were more than just instructions; they were a way for her to express her care and to bring her family and friends together. Each meal was a celebration of togetherness, and her culinary legacy will live on in the hearts and homes of her loved ones.
In retirement, Jean embraced the coastal life, enjoying sailing and the beach. The tranquility of the sea was a source of great joy for her, and it was here that she found moments of peace and reflection in her golden years.
Jean Loraine Ryan's memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the countless lives she touched with her gentle spirit. As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy is not just in what she did, but in the love, she gave and the lives she enriched. Jean's journey on earth has ended, but her story will continue to inspire all who knew her, and her spirit will forever be a guiding light for her family.
