Obituary Jane Kirschner Kellum, 89, of Morehead City, died Sunday, August 14, 2016, in Morehead City surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, at St. Egbert Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas R. Davis officiating. She was born in Champaign, IL on May 4, 1927 to Leslie Gordon Kirschner and Leda Delia Pyle Kirschner. She married Charles Thomas Kellum on December 12, 1951 in Hollywood, FL and in the fall of 1955 came to Morehead City on a yacht that docked at the Morehead City Yacht Basin. Mrs. Kellum served as St. Egbert Church organist for many years, was a substitute teacher at West Carteret High School, set up the first library at Carteret Technical Institute, now Carteret Community College, a member of St. Egbert Rosary Makers group and an accomplished writer and artist. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Laura Kellum Gillikin and husband Jesse of Mooresville, NC, Margaret Kellum Chalk and husband Skinner of Morehead City, Mary Kellum Docherty of Morehead City, Gina B. Murray and husband Patrick of Cincinnati, OH; sons, Tom S. Kellum and wife Vicki of Palm Harbor, FL, Charles Ziba Kellum of Durham, NC; brother, Gordon Kirschner and wife Hattie of Washington, DC; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, her infant son, Walter Francis Kellum and husband, Charles Thomas Kellum, preceded her in death. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Egbert Catholic Church, 1706 Evans Street, Morehead City, NC 28557 or St. Egbert Catholic School, 1705 Evans Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.
