A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 10, at First United Methodist Church in Morehead City with the Rev. E. Powell Osteen, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. James was born in Morehead City December 17, 1925. He grew up in the Brinson home at 808 Arendell Street, attended Morehead City schools until he became a Carolina freshman at age 16. James was a CPA most of his adult life and was dedicated to helping people negotiate the complexities of corporate and individual taxes. He loved UNC and was Tar Heel blue through and through. He loved athletics and history and was grateful to UNC for his education. James also loved First United Methodist Church where he grew up listening to his mother play the organ and singing in the choir for all but his earliest and latest years. James pitched for Morehead City in the 1940's and 1950's in the Tidewater Baseball League and was the winning pitcher for 44 games or 38% of the team's wins from 1947-1951. He later coached his son's little league team and assisted West Carteret High School coach, Gannon Talbert, as an occasional pitching coach. Most of all, James loved his family and his Lord, quietly, but steadfastly. He was first and always a Morehead City gentleman. He is survived by his daughter, Nora Joanne Webb and son-in-law David Carter of Gainesville, Virginia; son, James Brinson Webb, Jr. and daughter-in-law Jeanne Kittrell Webb of Morehead City; grandson, James Ryan Webb and his wife Stephanie Chetelat Webb of Raleigh and his beloved sister, Ruth Webb Bailey of Morehead City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Constance Lewis Webb of Beaufort, his mother, Hattie Brinson Webb, his father Norman Reed Webb, and his aunt, Pearl Brinson all of Morehead City. The family is grateful to the committed team of caregivers who helped his last months be safe and healthy.
