Obituary James Henry Spearman, Jr. (Papa Jim), 88, of Marshallberg, NC, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015. Jim was born July 4, 1927, in Charlotte, NC to his parents James H. Spearman and Mildred Cuthbertson Spearman who predeceased him. His brother Walter C. Spearman predeceased him and his brother William Whitman Spearman lives in Charlotte, NC. He is survived by his wife, Jenny Wise Spearman, his two daughters, Leigh S. Goodson and her husband, William A. Goodson III of Ridgewood, NJ, Rosanne S. Mitchell and her husband, Steve Mitchell of Tijeras, NM, stepson, Dr. Eddie Pollock and his wife, Ann of Winston Salem, stepson Xan Wise of Oriental, NC; 8 grandchildren, Kristin Nelson, Diane Kornegay, James Goodson, Frances Pollock, Garrison Pollock, McKinley Pollock, Xoe Wise, and Sidney Phibbons, 7 great grandchildren, his first wife Doris C. Spearman of Greensboro, NC, and second wife Barbara Wall of Winston-Salem, NC. Jim attended Central High School in Charlotte, served 2 years in the US Navy, and graduated from Duke University with a degree in Economics. Jim worked for City National Bank in Charlotte 1950-1958 and First Federal Savings and Loan in Charlotte 1958-1961. Jim moved to Greensboro, NC in 1961 and worked for Gate City Savings and Loan 1962-1992 where he became CEO. Gate City merged with BB&T in 1992 where he was Senior Vice President 1992-1996. Jim retired in August 1996 and moved to Marshallberg, NC to make memories with his grandchildren at Papa Jim's Summer Camp and enjoy two of his favorite hobbies, fishing and hunting. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church located at 1163 Marshallberg Road, Marshallberg, North Carolina. Reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carteret County Humane Society, 853 Hibbs Road, Newport, North Carolina 28570 in honor of Papa's beloved Golden Retriever, Margaret. Papa Jim lived a full life, lived it his way, lived with no regrets, and loved others well!
