James "Jim" Brown

Obituary James Thelbert Jim Brown, age 81, of Beaufort, formerly of Johnston County, died on September 26, 2015 at the SECU Hospice House, Smithfield. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Brooks Funeral Home. Born in Johnston County on February 6, 1934, he was the son of Isham Thelbert and Ila Lee Brady Brown. Mr. Brown was a retired marine biologist with the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries and was a US Army veteran. Surviving are a son, James Bert Brown, Jr. of Selma; daughter-in-law, Margaret Brown, of Morehead City; and two grandchildren, Steven and Wray Brown. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Barton Brown. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, 2 hours prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 a.m., and following the service at the home of Margaret Brown.
