James Black

July 4, 1933 — February 19, 2017

Obituary James Edward Black, 83, of Morehead City, went to be with the Lord on February 19th, 2017 at his home with his wife Dorothy by his side. A celebration of Jims life will be held from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Monday, February 20, at Open Door Baptist Church. A memorial service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Jim proudly served as in the Army of the United States as 1st Lieutenant. He graduated from Fordham University. Jim formed his own band called J.B. & the Mello Tones who performed at many New York City establishments like the Waldorf Astoria. He was recruited by the New York Giants and New York Yankees but decided against pursuing a professional baseball career. Later in life Jim accepted a position at Metropolitan Life Company where he worked his way up to Senior Director. Jim and Dorothy retired to Morehead City, NC where they have resided for the last 24 years. Jim was always active in his church where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school for Junior & Senior students and performed the duties of a deacon. Jim volunteered with Habitat for Humanity & the Disaster Relief Program. Jim is also survived by his sister, Barbara Ann Connolly; four children, Kim Keogh, Terry Graham, Jim Black, and John Black. Jim has four stepchildren, Tom Reese, Ken Reese, Linda Martinez and Lori Reese, 21 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
