Irene Thatch

Obituary Irene Thatch, 86, of Havelock, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Cherry Point Bay Nursing & Rehab. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 2 pm at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home. Irene Thatch was born in Sexton Missouri, on August 24, 1935. She passed away December 5, 2021, in Havelock, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Thessalonian Thatch and Minah (Wherry) Thatch. She was raised by her grandmother, Lena Wherry and Aunt Bessie after her mother died a few short weeks after giving birth to her. Irene grew up and attended school in Cleveland, Ohio. Her love for sewing and dancing began at an early age. She was a self-taught seamstress. She was also a beautiful dancer at Cleveland's own Karamu House. After she gave her life to Christ, she danced for the Lord. After leaving Ohio, Irene worked as a certified dental assistant and a dental surgery tech in Buffalo, New York. She eventually made North Carolina her home. She became a caregiver to many. She worked at Morehead Nursing Home where she retired. Irene loved the Lord. She attended Ambassadors for Christ church in Havelock, North Carolina. She was a member of God's City of Refuge in Newport, North Carolina for many years. During this time, Irene traveled to Brazil and Haiti to do missionary work. Irene was preceded in death by her brothers Sedel Luster, Paul and William Thatch. Also, her sisters Ruth Lee and Lula Mae, and grandson Dorian Hulett. She is survived by her sister Earlene Tripp of Chicago, children Ernie Thatch Sr. and daughter-n-law Joyce Thatch, daughter Ivy Hulett, grandchildren Angela and Dean Hulett, Ernie Thatch Jr., Martel Thatch, great-grandchildren Desmond Oliver, Kristen Oliver, Megan Oliver, John Marshall, Asia Hulett, Maya Ford, Leah Thatch, Martel Thatch Jr., Maxton Thatch and a host of other family and friends.
