Helen Chrash

Obituary Helen B. Chrash, daughter of Mary and Michael Brenyo, born February 4th, 1924, entered the heavenly realm on Holy Saturday, March 26, 2016. Helen grew up in Clairton, Pa. with her brothers and sisters. She was a high school graduate, as well as graduating from seamstress & millinery school and later taught sewing classes for adults. She was an accomplished millinery, who owned her own shop in Downtown, Pittsburgh, in the well-known Clark Building. There she made hats for the aristocracy of Pittsburgh. Her customers included the Mellons, Scaifes and Kaufmanns. She married Joseph Chrash of Uniontown, Pa. in 1946. They both had a passion for music, dancing and gardening. They had two sons, David (married to Cathy) and Gregory (married to Melany). In their retirement they moved to Morehead City, North Carolina and described it as Paradise. Both became master gardeners. Helen continued to enjoy her passion for baking, candy making and painting. They were active members of their church (St. Nicholas Orthodox) and community; volunteering for the local nursing homes. Helen taught arts and crafts and spent much of her time painting, gardening, reading and enjoying classical music. She was cared for by her loving neighbors, especially Louise Bell. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws as well as her grandchildren, Brian, Rachel and Olivia and great-grandchildren (Brian) Emi, Caden and Mason, sisters Margaret & Barbara, brother Michael, and many nieces & nephews. Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home in Morehead City, Sunday April 3rd from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Memorial Service for the Dead at 7:00 pm. A Burial Service for a Layman will be presided by V. Rev. Dr. Stephen Duesenberry, CDR, CHC, USN and Rev. John Shalhoub, LCDR, CHC, USN (ret) at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Camp Johnson, at 12:30 pm Monday April 4th with interment following at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville. A reception will be held at the home following the service. The family wishes to extend their thanks to all those close to Miss Helen that helped to watch over and care for her through the years.
