H. Richard Conover

Obituary H. Richard Conover, 96, of Emerald Isle, died Friday, December 19, 2014, at Carteret General Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Emerald Isle Baptist Church, with the Rev. Freddie Braswell and Dr. Ed Gunter, co-officating. H. Richard Conover was born December 4, 1918, in Boonton, New Jersey, to Harry Remington Conover and Jennie Nicholas Conover. Dick spent his boyhood years with brother Don, both in Brooklyn, New York and Dover, New Jersey where he met and married his true love, Marie E. Sievers. He attended Trenton State Teachers College, Trenton, New Jersey, where he made life long friends and ran the high hurdles on the track team. After college Dick began his professional education career from which he was drafted into the Army during World War II. Upon discharge, he soon became the Principal of Millburn-Shorthills Junior High School, Millburn, New Jersey, a job he truly loved. Dick and Marie happily raised their two children, Judy and Rich in Whippany, New Jersey residing there until 1982. After retirement he began a new life on the beach in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Dick passed the years walking the beach with Marie, traveling, playing golf and enjoying his many friends. In 2002 Dick tragically lost his beautiful wife, Marie and as time passed was fortunate to meet Christine J. Hoffacker who became his loving partner. A teacher at heart, he taught 55 Alive Driving up until his 90th birthday. Dick was a man of love, a man of hope, a man of song, a man of the people, a special spirit with magical eyes. Casting a wide net, he will be fondly remembered. He is survived by; a daughter, Judith Tretiak, of Lakewood, New Jersey; a son, Richard R. Conover and daughter-in-law, Melodie Loughmuller of Mukilteo, Washington; a brother, Donald C. Conover and wife, Miriam and niece Melissa, of Rutland, Vermont; and loving partner, Christine Hoffacker of Emerald Isle, North Carolina. . In addition to his parents, his wife, Marie E.
