Obituary Guy Smith, Jr., 84, of Beaufort, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 25, 2015, at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, with the Rev. John Carlisto, officiating. Mr. Smith was born in Beaufort to Guy and Lola Smith. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Smith retired as a railroad engineer for the Norfolk Southern Railroad and also worked as a railroad engineer for the Beaufort-Morehead (B&M) Railroad. He served as a commissioner for the Town of Beaufort. He was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and sang in the choir for many years. He is survived by a son, Kenneth Wayne Smith and his wife, Ludie, of Greenville; two daughters, Elizabeth Dawn Smith of Myrtle Beach and Andrea Smith Brown and her husband, Mark, of Raleigh; one sister, Brenda Lowdermilk and her husband Richard, of Atlantic; 5 grandchildren, Stephen Wayne Smith and wife, Ruth Ann, of Greensboro, Jeffrey Neil Smith and wife, Casey, of Farmville, Lesley Elizabeth Smith of Winterville, Connor Lee Thomas of Raleigh, and Alexander Guy Thomas of Raleigh; 3 great-grandchildren, Alexis Vick, Ryan Vick, and Tyler Smith. The family will receive friends in the church parish hall following the service. In addition to his parents, his wife, June Harris Smith, preceded him in death.
