Gustave '"Artie"' Miller

Obituary Gustave Arthur "Artie" Miller, 96, of Pine Knoll Shores, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018, at Crystal Coast Hospice House. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 20th , at St. Egbert Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas R. Davis officiating. The inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. Art was born in the Bronx, NY on December 10, 1921, to Gus and Marie Carson Miller. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Bellmore, Long Island, NY, where Arthur grew up. He was currently residing in Pine Knoll Shores on North Carolinas Crystal Coast. Art spent 3 years in the Navy as an aviation machinist mate (AMM 2/c). He was employed by the Grumman Aircraft Co., before the war and retired from Grumman in 1984 and at that time he and his wife Frances moved to Pine Knoll Shores. Art considered himself fortunate to work for Grumman where he worked on many interesting projects, including the Lunar Landing Module (LM) and, of course, the great service planes produced there. Arts interest in retirement was his church, St. Egbert Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Mens Club. He also was a member of the Grumman Retiree Club where he organized many club activities and interesting trips. Art also was a member of Bogue Banks Country Club where he organized the "Half Rounders" and ran that for many years plus other golf and social activities. Arts life was filled with family which he cherished above all. He is survived by his three children, Arthur, and his wife, Joan, Irene Staab, and her husband, Robert, and his son, Douglas; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary service at 5:15 p.m.and a Cristian Wake service following. In addition to his parents, Art is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Frances; and his daughter-in-law Joan.
