Obituary Glenn White Safrit, Sr., 83, of Morehead City, died on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Carolina House of Morehead City. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 28, 2014, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 100 St. Johns Church Road, Concord, with Pastor Ray Sipe and Pastor Don Deal, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Safrit was born on February 27,1931, in Concord, to Grover White and Etta Grace Beaver Safrit. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Concord. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1954 and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, NV. He was in the 3597th squadron and was an atomic veteran who participated in an atomic bomb blast at Yucca Flats, NV. He is survived by his wife, Nell Furr Safrit; son, Glenn White Safrit, Jr. and wife, Shelley, of Morehead City; brothers, Ray Safrit and wife, Phyllis, of Concord and Joe Safrit and wife, Melba, of Concord; grandchildren, Samuel and Jesse. In addition to his parents, his sisters, Helen Lackey and Lula Funderburke, preceded him in death. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 28, 2014, preceding the service at the church.
