Georgie Hughes

Obituary Ms. Georgie P. Hughes, most recently of Fuquay-Varina, NC, died on February 28, 2016. Ms. Hughes maintained a home in Beaufort, until 2001 when she moved to a retirement center. Ms. Hughes was Director of Social Services in Carteret County for thirteen years, and later, supervised the Community Services Consultants in eastern North Carolina. She was a member of the faculty at the UNC School of Social Work and established the Developmental Evaluation Center in New Bern. Ms. Hughes is survived by her sister, Anne Smith, and nieces Grace, Joanne, and Mary, cousins George and Nancy, grandnieces, nephews and cousins. She will not only be missed by her family, but also by many adopted nieces and nephews, her Sunday School Class at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, their children, and grandchildren. She touched the lives of many, many people. Ms. Hughes will be interred in the columbarium at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Beaufort. A memorial services will be held for her on Friday, July 22, 2016, 2:00 pm, at St. Pauls.
