George Laroque

September 1, 1958 — June 18, 2023

Obituary George Webb LaRoque, 64, died suddenly the 18th day of June in 2023, at home in Newport, NC. Born on September 1, 1958 in Kinston NC, he was the son of Walter Dunn LaRoque III and Naomi Phoenix Webb. George attended Fork Union Military Academy and graduated with top honors in 1976. In 1981, he received his MBA from East Carolina University. While at ECU, he was re-acquainted with Barbara Allen who he had known in elementary school. Barbara became the love of his life and they married in 1984. Georges 41-year career with First Citizens Bank began in Jacksonville, NC. He was quickly moved by the company to Morehead City, and was an active community leader. He had special interest in Rotary and served as president of his club. In 1992 he was, again, promoted and transferred to Kinston. He enjoyed building and renovating houses and was actively involved in countless projects with the Habitat for Humanity. In addition, George served as a cub scout leader and scout master for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 41. Two years ago, George and Barbara bought their dream home in Newport, NC where he worked from home as a Senior Vice President and Senior Regional Credit Officer. As an active member of St. Marys Episcopal Church in Kinston, George enjoyed participating in the Boars Head Festival in the very fitting role as one of the Kings. He put his talents to work designing and constructing the Tryptic, the centerpiece of the performance. Dedicated to family and friends, he was masterful at telling a good story and always had a joke up his sleeve. George loved being with his family, being out on the boat or jet-ski, watching his favorite tv shows (Andy Griffin, Judge Judy, This Old House, and many different programs on the History Channel), carpentry and staying up to date on the newest gadget. George is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara Allen; son, George Webb LaRoque II and wife Morgan Elyse and granddaughter Sadie Grace of Louisburg, NC and son, John-Luke Phoenix LaRoque of Raleigh, NC. Special family members include Georges twin brother, Mark Hines LaRoque and wife, Roseann, their sons Benjamin, Eric and wife Suzanne Hackney, and a special Aunt Ernestine Sanford. George was preceded in death by his parents Walter Dunn LaRoque III and Naomi Phoenix Webb. A memorial service will be held at the chapel of Noe-Brooks Funeral home in Morehead City on Thursday, June 22, at 2:00 PM. Visitation will follow at the home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to St. Marys Episcopal Church 800 Roundtree St. Kinston, NC 28501 in care of The LaRoque Fund. The Fund is designated to sponsor youth in need of financial support to attend Glory Ridge Mission camp and other various youth activities.
