George Cleavon Greene, Jr.

February 2, 1942 — May 21, 2024

George C. Greene, 82, of Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina, died May 21, 2024.

A visitation will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church Wesminster Hall.

George is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Mary Greene; one son Sam Greene and his wife, Melissa, of Tustin, California; two grandchildren, Max, and Ford.

Born and raised in Panama City, Florida, he was the son of George “Sam” Greene and Ira Cotton Greene. George attended schools there and in 1966, he married Mary Morgan. After graduation from the University of Florida, George began his successful career in the textile industry, first at Riegel Textile in LaFrance, South Carolina and then at Collins & Aikman Textile in Roxboro, North Carolina. Upon his retirement in 2002, George and Mary happily relocated to Pine Knoll Shores.

George enjoyed the beach, fishing, and attempting to play golf. He loved to give back to his local community, and spent many years as an active volunteer with the town of Pine Knoll Shores, Friends of Bogue Banks Library, and the First Presbyterian Church of Morehead City.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Pine Knoll Shores EMS, the Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Carteret Health Care, the Leon Mann Senior Center, and Dr. Alonzo Davis and his care team.

In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory can be made to the Memorial Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 1604 Arendell St. Morehead City, NC 28557.
