Galloway Pate, 46, of Morehead City, died on Tuesday, December 26, 2023.
A paddle-out celebration of Galloway’s life will be held when the water is warm in the spring.
Galloway’s passion with tennis began at an early age. After being certified with Professional Tennis Registry, he enjoyed hours on the courts sharing skills, techniques, his wicked spins, and backhands. As a junior state competitor, he won the annual sportsmanship award presented by Spectator Magazine. His second love was surfing. Incredible friendships were formed, and the salt air soothed his soul.
Galloway is survived by his mother, Robin Gordon-Scalone and partner Wes Hardison; sister, Jenny Pate-Browning and husband Barrett, and his niece, Callie Gray Hinson. He is also survived by his aunts, Jenny Gordon Morrison and husband Leon, and Michelle Scalone Hyde.
Sharing sentiments from dear friend, Donnie Leatherman Ball, and her son: “Galloway was loved by so many different people-literally all over the world. He was artistic, hilarious, and talented. He loved tennis, surfing, painting, his family, his friends, traveling, super cool sunglasses, sharp looking shoes, and having fun. He was always painting something. Whether it was on a canvas, a surfboard, pants, shoes, or even his face, paint could always be added to add more joy. He would fill up a home with artwork if you let him.”
