Obituary Franklin George Heckler, 85, of Bogue passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Brooks Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jack Mumford officiating He was born on October 23, 1930 in Buffalo, NY to the late John William Heckler, Sr. and Susan Dillon Heckler. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He served as a Field Radio Operator and Aviation Electrician in the Marine Corps and was a recipient of the Japan Occupation Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He retired after 38 years of service in the active duty military and Civil Service at Cherry Point, N.C. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Mae Rodgers Heckler; daughters, Linda Susan Heald and husband Edward of Utica, OH, Marchel Jean Hitchcock of Butler, TN, Kathryn Anne Russell and husband Tony of Bogue, and Patricia Diane Sheffield and husband Jeff of Bogue, 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Susan Francis Stallone and Eva Margaret Nicholson; brothers, John William Heckler, Jr., Edward Otto Heckler and Floyd Phillip Heckler. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors Leave, MOPH, P.O. Box 639, Newport, NC 28570.
