Obituary Frank Daniel Rock II, of Beaufort, died Monday, June 13, 2016 at Brookdale Senior Living, Morehead City, North Carolina. Mr. Rock was born April 6, 1926, in Winthrop, Massachusetts, to Lewis Burnham Rock and Agnes Fairfield Rock. He attended Riverside Military Academy in Georgia, was a graduate of The University of Colorado at Boulder and served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific and the Philippine Islands. He retired as President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Lynchburg Gas Company in Lynchburg, Virginia. Mr. Rocks first employment after graduating from college was with the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC. He then moved to Orange County, Virginia, where he bought a farm, Hilton, in the town of Gordonsville. For twenty years he was active in livestock farming, insurance and the real estate business. He was Manager of the Virginia Pipeline Company and Citizens Gas Company operations in Orange, Louisa, Fluvanna and Albemarle Counties. Mr. Rock belonged to Christ Church (Episcopal) at Gordonsville, serving as a vestryman for many years and two terms as Senior Warden. He was a past president of the Gordonsville Lions Club. He was Director and Secretary-Treasurer of Gordonsville Development Corporation and a trustee of Gordonsville Community Hospital. Mr. Rock was a member of the Board of Trustees of Lynchburg College and Secretary of the Board of Trustees. He served on the Advisory Board of Sovran Bank. He was President of the Greater Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce and President of Central Lynchburg, Inc. He also served as President of the Southeastern Gas Association. After moving to Beaufort, North Carolina, Mr. Rock was an active member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church, The Beaufort Historical Association and the Beaufort Ole Towne Rotary Club. He was a lifetime member of Chi Psi Fraternity. Mr. Rock was predeceased by his second wife, Fran Drinkard Rock, and his three brothers; Lewis Burnham Rock Jr., Herbert Fairfield Pat Rock and Charles Southwell Rock. He is survived by two daughters, Sarah Rock Shaber (Steve) of Raleigh and Frances Rock Thomas (Rob) of Charlotte, and his son, Frank Daniel Rock III (Leslie) of Macon, Georgia. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Rock is also survived by two stepsons, Kent Drinkard and Bart Drinkard, and three step-grandchildren. Mr. Rocks family is grateful to the staff of Brookdale Senior Living, Friendly Caregivers, and Community Home Care and Hospice for their tender care of their father during his last years. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 16, at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Beaufort, with the Rev. John Carlisto officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow in St. Pauls Memory Garden, followed immediately by a reception in the church parish hall.
