Obituary Frances Collis Miller, 93, of Pine Knoll Shores departed this world on June 27, 2016, at her home. She will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother and a grandmother; and a great-grandmother who often showed us that there is a sun even when it rains. Fran developed real friendships and always considered others before herself. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 1, at St. Egbert Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas R. Davis officiating. The inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. Fran was born December 10, 1922, in Hamilton Square, New Jersey, to John M. Collis and Verna (Richardson) Collis. She attended school there and in 1939 graduated from Hamilton High School and was an active member in the Class of 1939 Reunion Club and attended the reunions including the 71st which she thoroughly enjoyed. When her children completed high school, she was employed by the Massapequa School District and 20 years later retired as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools and at that time relocated to North Carolina. Fran was a member of St. Ebgert Catholic Church and served ten years as a secretary to the principal of St. Egbert School. Fran, being Irish, loved to cook and entertain. Her cooking was always supreme and was enjoyed and appreciated for all the holidays and of course, her Irish parties were always good cooking, great fun and much camaraderie. Fran was a member of Bogue Banks Country Club where she enjoyed the golf, tennis, parties and the many activities offered there. Fran was family oriented and always put family first. Our hearts ache in sadness as we ask God for her safekeeping; our tears will flow but she will always be in our hearts. Fran built a home of her style in Pine Knoll Shores, NC where she believed all the amenities of a very full, comfortable life were available, and she would leave this life in Pine Knoll Shores with no regrets because she considered herself the recipient of all that life could offer. She loved a happy home. Fran leaves her husband, G. A. Miller, of 72 years of marriage, three (3) children; Arthur Francis Miller and wife, Joan; Irene Staab and husband, Robert; Douglas Richard Miller and wife, Joan, plus seven (7) grandchildren and eleven (11) great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jack Allman of Lewes, Delaware and sister-in-law, Shirley Collis of Bordentown, New Jersey.
