Frances Lupton

December 28, 1925 — September 14, 2017

Obituary Frances Wilkinson Lupton, 91, of Morehead City, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 14th, 2017. In her final days, she was surrounded by her family, countless friends and devoted caregivers. Frances was born on December 28, 1925 to the late Cecil and Temperance Wilkinson in Pantego, NC. Frances married her high school sweetheart, Howard Ray Lupton, on June 21, 1949, and several years later moved to Morehead City where they raised their four children. They quickly found it easy to call Morehead "home" and immersed themselves in such a wonderful community where they made many friends over the years. Frances attended UNC-G, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree and teaching certificate. She taught home economics for seven years and her love of children lead her to open a small daycare in her home. "Miss Frances Play School" became well known in the community and her motto of "do unto others" and learning to love, share and play with friends enabled "play school" to last for thirty-two years. Many parents and children may fondly recall the swing sets, sand box, "Tea Party Time" and countless hours playing with toys and play dough, but most of all they recall her smile and genuine affection shown to each one of them. She was a volunteer with Marthas Mission and active in First United Methodist Church of Morehead City, having served as Hospitality Chairman for many years and also on the Grounds Committee. Her family honored her strong faith and service to the church by recently donating the "cross and flame" which overlooks the church courtyard where the dedication service was held by her church family and friends. Frances enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, cooking, shell collecting, swimming and walking. Her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother is what she cherished most. Frances valued family above all else and instilled her beliefs in her children and the generations that followed. Her unwavering love, support and dedication to her family is evident today in a family that is close-knit and committed to one another. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard Ray Lupton, and brother Cecil Wilkinson Jr. Her memory will be forever treasured by her children, Charles Lupton and wife, Lynn, of Pine Knoll Shores, Janice Clontz and husband Charlie, of Pine Knoll Shores, Michael Lupton and wife Hope, of Morehead City, and Warren Lupton and wife Kristin, of Morehead City. Frances adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Carlyn Cottrell and husband Scott and their children Molly Scott and Saylor of Morehead City, Hunter Lupton and wife Brooke and their children Finn and Mckinley, of Beaufort, Sarah Kate Willis and husband Trey, of Pine Knoll Shores, Lee Lupton, Howard Lupton, Griffin Lupton, and Dawson Lupton of Morehead City.
