Frances Appel

Obituary Frances Stiff Appel, 96, of Beaufort, NC passed away Friday, July 31, 2015 at her home. Her service will be held at Ann Street United Methodist Church, Beaufort, Saturday, August 8, at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Dennis Goodwin officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. in the Ann Street United Methodist Church Eure Building, prior to the service. Interment will be Tuesday, August 11, in Topping, Virginia. She was born in Topping, Virginia to the late George Clinton and Annie Mary Stiff on July 18, 1919. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, Virginia and Averett College. She went to work in the Virginia Department of Highways, where she met her husband of 61 years, Ernest Wesley Appel. They made their home in Richmond, Virginia. She and Wesley were members of Northminster Baptist Church in Richmond. Her life was spent in caring for her family and in service to her church and Baptist organizations in the city and state, including president of WMU for Richmond, member of the board of trustees for the Religious Herald, and member of the board of the Virginia Baptist Association. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Way and her husband, Dr. Brady Way; three grandsons, David Way and his wife Danielle, Michael Way and his wife Beth Ann, and Brian Way and his wife Sharon; and ten great-granchildren who were the joy of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents and her brothers Nelson Stiff and William Stiff and her sister Nellie Trusik. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to Ann Street United Methodist Church, 417 Ann Street, Beaufort, NC 28516.
