Evelyn Jane Wegman

Obituary Evelyn Jane Wegman, 85, of Cape Carteret, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2020, surrounded by the love of her family. During her life, she enjoyed 22 years as an Air Force wife, traveling, knitting, and reading. After retiring in NC, she lived many years in Goldsboro, then, in 1984, she and Lou moved to the coast. She cared for her mother for 14 years, and after her passing, she began substitute teaching at White Oak Elementary School. The love of the children and faculty meant so much to her. She was a member of the White Oak River Chapter of the AARP, a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School at St. Peters Church, and traveled to Cuba several times as a missionary with her son, Mark. Above all things in her life, her family was most important to her. Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, David 'Lou' Wegman; her children, Theresa Bousquet (Mark Caldwell), Cynthia Salter (Van), Michael Wegman (Carolyn), Mark Wegman, Robert Wegman (Elisa), Deborah Tabor; sisters Lilo Heeshen, and Marianna Guess-Marin; Eleven Grandchildren; and six Great Grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents; a son, Scott Wegman; and brother Donald E. Lorrier. The family will hold a memorial service celebrating her life on Saturday, January 11, at 10:00am at the Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Bogue, NC.
