Obituary Eva Gaskill Carawan, 83, of Morehead City, NC passed away on April 22, 2019 in Morehead City, NC. Services will be held at The First United Methodist Church, 900 Arendell St, Morehead City, NC 28557, on April 24, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation to follow immediately after the service. The Rev. Powell Osteen will officiate. Eva was born and raised in Harkers Island, NC. She graduated from Smyrna High School and attended business college. She was crowned Miss Down East in 1954. She had a tremendous sense of style and a love of fashion. As a young lady, while working at Morehead Hospital, she met the love of her life, her husband Barden, and the couple married and settled in Morehead City. Eva worked in the community as an accountant, bookkeeper at Bardens Barbershop, and sales at the Sea Pony. Eva was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church for more than 55 years. Through the years, she volunteered as a receptionist at the church. She also served as president and longtime member of the Jackie Eure Sunday School Class. Eva loved attending her grandchildrens sports games and music events and enjoyed weekly lunches with her friends to various places in town, especially the Sanitary Restaurant on the Morehead City waterfront. Her survivors include her children; Angela Varner, Danny of Morehead City, Evonne Carawan of Morehead City and Woodbridge, VA, and Phillip Carawan and Janeen Russell of Morehead City; her grandchildren; James Varner, Amanda; Mary Ann Varner, Ruth Varner; one brother, Stephen Gaskill and a sister, Joan Gillikin.
