Eugene Walsh

Obituary Eugene C. Walsh, 85, of Pine Knoll Shores, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at his home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, October 20, 2017, at St. Egbert Catholic Church with the pastor, the Rev. Thomas R. Davis, officiating. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. Mr. Walsh was born September 9, 1932, in Baldwin, Long Island, NY. Gene graduated from Cortland College in 1954. Upon completion of college he was drafted into the Army where he completed combat photography school. He was then assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington where he married Susan Donnelly of Rockville Centre, Long Island, NY, his wife of 62 years, at the Fort Lewis Chapel. After being discharged from the Army, he was a district manager for NY Telephone Company for 12 years. He then joined Marran Oil Company for 10 years and later became general manager with Meenan Oil Company for 13 years. Gene was Vice President of the L.I. Oil Heat Institute and the Oil Terminals Association. The oil companies were local, enabling Gene to be present for family dinners and participate in childrens activities, which were important to him and the family. Gene was also an active member of the Sayville Yacht Club. Gene retired in 1991 and moved to Pine Knoll Shores, NC where he joined the Bogue Banks Country Club and the Morehead City Country Club, and enjoyed many wonderful friendships and rounds of golf. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Susan Donnelly Walsh; son, John Walsh and his wife Nancy of North Potomac, MD; daughter, Laura Citron and husband Tod of Atlanta, GA, daughter, Elizabeth Gennosa and husband Edward of Sayville, NY, daughter, Donna Schantz of Valdez, AK, son-in-law, Mead Treadwell of Anchorage, AK; brother, Laurence Walsh of Vista, CA; 11 grandchildren, Tim Treadwell of Anchorage, AK, Will Treadwell of Washington, D.C., Natalie Treadwell of Anchorage, AK, Kathleen Walsh of N. Potomac, MD, Daniel Walsh of Wilmington, NC, Matthew Citron of Los Angeles, CA, Chloe Citron of Atlanta, GA, Katherine Gennosa and Dean Gennosa of Sayville, NY, and Tim Schantz and Ellie Schantz, of Valdez, AK.
